What legal action can i take?

I have been terminated from my job on terms of theft that i had nothing to do with that my husband did and we are seperated and i did not know about it! Then i get terminated and when people come in ask the employee's where i am they tell them exactly what happened? Is that slander, Defamation or what? What can i do!?
