Why do Republicans talk about preserving the family, yet simultaneously undermine the family w/ their policies?

I'm sure everyone has at some point heard Republicans talk about how it's important to maintain the family and how the break-down of the family is the reason why things are less stable. I'm sure that everyone, regardless of their political affiliation, can agree that people need to spend more time with their relatives in order to strengthen familial ties and make American culture more stable. Here is what I don't understand. The Republicans have always favored industry over the average worker. In doing so, they gave industry a tremendous amount of control over how they can operate their enterprises and manage their labor force. Basically what has ended up happening is that American parents are working long hours and they can't even spend that much time with their kids (hence the breakdown of the family). Why is it that Republicans don't consider adoption government regulations that limit the amount of hours that an employer can force their employee to work? In European countries where government plays a more active role, the average worker does get to spend more time with their families since they aren't working as much. Why don't Republicans do the same? If they are really that serious about having people spend more time with their families, then why oppose the measures that would turn the dream into a reality?
