My unneutered male cat is almost 1 and he has started drooling excessively. Help?

My cat has just started drooling excessively and we do not know why. When he was younger he had a split tongue like a snake and it grew up so we did not think anything else about it. We have checked for anything harmful that he could have ingested, but have found nothing. He sleeps alot and meows more than he used to. Can someone help me answer this question. We love this cat and do not want him to die.
