Should I give up on him?

When he knew I like him he asked me out. I said yes but when one of my best friends found out and she was saying "ewww" and all that because she was saying she doesn't want me to go out with him. I think he was sad about what happened so he told me that we should just be friends and I agreed with it. I thought it was the right thing because my friend's against it and we know others will be against it, like one of his friends who's been asking me out ever since school started. My friend who sits beside him at cl told me that he asks about me and if i ever talk about him and she said that he would go out with me but I only wanted to be friends (which is not true!). I still like him and I dont like the feeling of just being friends but ever since it happened i dont think we were as close as before and im having the feeling that he doesnt feel the same way anymore. And this thing that happened yesterday also confused me and I wasnt sure if I heard it right - Me and my friends were walking in front of him and his friends then suddenly one of them was teasing him saying he likes my other friend and I was trying to ignore it so I just kept walking with my friends. But then when his friend kept teasing him I heard him say my name and his friend was like "(my name)?!" then my friend was saying he said he likes me. Im confused though because now it seems like he likes my best friend more than he likes me and I dont want to be a "second choice". Please Help .. Should I just give up on him after what happened? If not what should I do? Thanks in advance :)
